The Turning Point
The Astrology of This Week: A Big Sky and a Gentle Invitation
You might feel something stirring this week. A pull to say something you’ve been sitting with or pull the trigger on a decision you’ve been sitting with. The energy may not be felt dramatically for each of us, but there is likely to be a sense that something wants to move.
What we are moving through is a collective turning point. But it will be most felt for individuals who have planets in the early degrees of air and fire signs.
From July 18 to 25, peaking around the 20th, the sky is holding a configuration astrologers have started calling Barbault’s Basket. It’s rare enough that most of us will only see something like it once. And it’s worth knowing a little about where the name comes from, because the story behind it is part of what makes this week feel different.
André Barbault was a French astrologer, born in 1921, who spent much of his life studying the way the outer planets move together over long cycles. In 2011, he wrote that the years 2020 to 2021 would likely bring real pressure to the collective, tied to a rare clustering of the outer planets in Capricorn and the lowest point in what he called the cyclical index of the century. He died in October 2019, a few months before the world understood exactly what he’d meant. Then in 2014, looking further ahead, he pointed to this exact July, this exact alignment, and described it as the start of something far more exciting: what he called a splendid relaunch of civilisation.
Here’s what’s actually happening.
Four outer planets align in fire and air signs at the same degree this month. Pluto at 4° Aquarius. Neptune at 4° Aries. Uranus at 4° Gemini. Jupiter at 4° Leo. All air, all fire, all thought and will, nothing grounded or slow. And they aren’t just near each other. They’re held in a structure, oppositions cradled inside a ring of trines and sextiles that support each other rather than only pulling apart.
This is a significant transit, but it doesn’t mean the world changes overnight. Nothing in the sky moves that fast, and nothing this size resolves in a week. What it offers instead is an invitation. A chance for each of us to meet this stretch of days with as much honest self-awareness as we can hold. The more coherent we are individually, the more coherent we become collectively. That’s really the whole story here. It’s likely to look like many individual turns, happening around the same time, rather than one dramatic one.
Jupiter and Pluto move through a shared cycle roughly every twelve to thirteen years, and the seed point of the current cycle was 2020, when the two planets sat together three times in Capricorn. Those were dense, structural months, institutions tested, ground shifting under a lot of us at once. This week’s opposition is the far side of that same cycle, the point where whatever was planted then becomes visible enough to reckon with. It’s a collective turning point as much as a personal one: a chance to see clearly what we built from the awareness and choices we brought to 2020, and what we’re each being asked to do with what we find.
On a personal level, it may bring something to the surface. Perhaps illuminating where we’ve been reachingbeyond our means, or holding onto control out of fear rather than clarity. If that happens for you, try taking it as an invitation to look gently at what’s actually there, rather than a warning.
For some of us, that might look like a decision that’s been waiting, finally asking to be made. A version of ourselves we’ve kept tucked away, grown a little too big to keep in a drawer. Old fears about being too much contrasted alongside a genuine chance to be seen more fully. None of this will be resolved by the 25th. But it’s certainly worth noticing what arises for you this week.
There’s more support in this pattern than tension. Trines and sextiles outnumber the hard angles. Air and fire signs tend to move and build, the way earth and water can sometimes hold and settle instead. So while there’s energy here, think of it less as collision and more as structure holding momentum. Something asking to be built rather than merely sustained.
Zooming out, this reads like the early days of something, an era carried more by air and fire than earth and water: visibility, innovation, collective vision, the nerve to want more. That kind of shift tends to unfold over years, not days. This week is simply where it begins to stir.
This astrology of this week is asking one thing… The sky sets the conditions, and you meet them as yourself. Which raises the obvious question: do you actually know how you’re designed to meet a moment like this?
That’s exactly what our Human Design and Astrology reports explore. They go beyond a description of your chart into how you specifically are designed to make your most aligned decisions, recognise your best opportunities, and build a life that feels sustainable and enriching for you. All written through an evolutionary lens.
Underneath the one big pattern, there are six individual relationships happening between these planets. Each one carries its own overview, its own challenge, and its own gift. You may feel some more than others, depending on what’s already alive in your own chart or your own life right now.
Jupiter–Pluto
Overview: this is the tension point of the whole configuration, growth that’s asked to be tested by real transformation rather than simply added onto what already exists.
The challenge: ambition tipping into a hunger for power, or an overreach that takes more than is genuinely ours to hold.
The gift: a resilient, persuasive kind of growth, faith that’s actually been tested, and momentum that can sustain something bigger than comfort.
Jupiter–Uranus
Overview: growth that comes through change rather than through staying the same.
The challenge: a growth mindset that outpaces what’s actually sustainable, chasing the next idea without doing the work underneath it.
The gift: a generous, forward-looking kind of growth, adaptable and quick to meet real breakthroughs when they arrive.
Jupiter–Neptune
Overview: growth meeting imagination, expansion drawn toward wonder rather than needing to be sure.
The challenge: an optimism that outpaces reality, a hope that skips the healthy scepticism a moment might actually need.
The gift: a visionary, deeply compassionate kind of growth, one that sees what’s possible clearly and holds a faith that’s genuinely abundant rather than naive.
Uranus–Neptune
Overview: revolution and imagination in relationship with one another, change that’s informed by compassion rather than force alone.
The challenge: losing its grounding entirely, so sure of its own vision that it stops checking that vision against what’s genuinely possible.
The gift: real breakthroughs in consciousness, imagining what doesn’t exist yet, and bringing enough heart to it that it can actually take hold.
Uranus–Pluto
Overview: independence and transformation meeting each other directly, not rebellion for its own sake but liberation that’s also genuine evolution.
The challenge: an extreme willfulness, breaking free for the sake of breaking free, or a power struggle between wanting control and wanting freedom.
The gift: a driven, resilient kind of change, the ability to fight for what’s genuinely believed in, and to set something in motion that reaches further than just one life.
Neptune–Pluto
Overview: spirituality and transformation in deep relationship, transcendence that comes through genuine descent rather than staying on the surface.
The challenge: an unclear sense of power, drawn toward illusion, or caught in something that looks spiritual but has lost its sense of direction.
The gift: a deep, devoted kind of transformation, compassion for what’s genuinely difficult, and the willingness to bring light to what most people are too afraid to look at directly.
Mercury Retrograde
And additionally, On July 23, Mercury stations direct at 16° Cancer, closing out the retrograde we’ve been in since late June. Stationing days can feel a little bumpy. When a planet slows to change direction, its themes tend to wobble before they steady, so the 23rd itself may bring crossed wires, tech doing strange things, messages landing oddly, plans needing one more adjustment. Give anything important a day or two of grace if you can. Once Mercury is properly moving forward again, everything this retrograde asked you to review, the conversations, the plans, the stories you’ve been retelling yourself, will likely begin to move with more clarity.
A few gentle ways to meet the week:
Let your body have a say. Air and fire move fast; a walk, a stretch, a slow meal helps the insight land somewhere real.
If your design asks you to wait, let waiting be your participation. Stillness inside a big transit is still a response.
When the energy feels big, come back to something small and physical. Make the tea. Water the plants. Tend to yourself gently.
Ask yourself what 2020 taught you that you’re still holding onto, and whether it still fits.
If a decision surfaces, come back to your strategy and authority. That’s truly the most important thing you can do this week.
Stay curious and open to what you feel and what you are shown.
Be extra aware of your not-self distractions, because the potential to initiate prematurely is very real with astrology like this. If you don’t know yours, we cover them in detail here.
Know that your only job is to bring as much true self-awareness to this moment as you can. You don’t have to worry about missing an opportunity or not harnessing the energy. If you are moving and living as your true self, you will meet it exactly as you are meant to.
The sky can offer momentum. It can’t make your decisions for you. That’s what your authority is for. If this window is asking you to move and everything in your design is asking you to wait, wait. Authority trumps transits, every time. If your authority says go, this is a rare amount of support to go with it. But only if it is truly authority-led, otherwise it just becomes another distraction from what is truly right for you in this moment.
Whatever this week stirs in you, there’s no rush to have it figured out by the 25th. The invitation is simply to meet yourself honestly while it’s here. One coherent person at a time is how a coherent collective actually happens.
